South-West Victoria

The south west region of Victoria is one of the world’s most spectacular and inspiring regions offering a unique rural lifestyle where the people are warm and friendly.

With a mild temperate climate and an average rainfall of 950mm, the region is drought proof with good winter and spring rainfall.  The agriculture within this region is diverse ranging from producing potatoes to wines and from sheep to cattle, with dairying being the predominant industry.  The soil is rich and fertile ranging from volcanic to basalt.  Diversification is growing continually as markets open.  We have world class cheeses, ice-cream, wines, seafood and venison to mention just a few.

Tourism is booming.  B& B’s and boutique accommodation options are popping up everywhere as the rest of the world discovers what locals have always known – this is the place to be.

The natural attractions in this region abound.  The unique lakes and craters in and around Camperdown;  the spectacular Great Ocean Road, breathtaking at every bend;  the Southern Right Whales who now call this region home for part of the year; the Otways National Parks and the historic homesteads and botanic gardens- something for everyone.

Around every corner in each city and town awaits a unique attraction and a piece of history just waiting for you to discover.

Warrnambool is the main centre and with a population of almost 30,000 is the fifth largest city in Victoria.  The regions private and public primary and secondary schools are of a high standard and Warrnambool has the popular Deakin University campus.  Medical services and aged care are also well catered for.  The area boasts some magnificent golf courses, excellent fishing in the many lakes and rivers and of course in the ocean.  Sailing and diving are to be enjoyed along with all the popular sports, such as football, netball basketball and tennis.

There has never been a better time to plan for your future in South West Victoria.
